I am addicted to making garlands. I'm always on the lookout for a new one to make :) They're such a quick and easy way to add a bit of colour to any room. And given I use things I have on-hand already, they cost me nothing to make which is always a bonus!
I thought I'd share a quick DIY on how I put this one together. All you need is a circle punch (or a cutting machine if you have it), twine, hot glue gun and scissors (to cut the twine at the end…).
Step 1 – pick all your favourite papers (I went with my favourites from the Dear Lizzy Saturday collection!)
Step 2 – punch lots and lots of circles – I used a 1 inch circle because I was aiming for a mini-garland – if you want something a bit bigger than go with at least a 2 inch punch.
Step 3 – fold them all in half – you could use a scoring board to make sure it’s all even but I decided to wing it, meant a few of my half circles were a little uneven but I can live with it.
Repeat until your desk is full of lots of half circles!
Next we need to put our circles together. This is where the glue gun comes into play!
Step 4 – Add a little glue to one half of the circle
Step 5 – Get another half circle and press it against the section that has glue
Step 6 – Repeat same step a couple more times
Step 7 – Before gluing in the final piece I actually positing it on my twine then closed it up. You could just make the circles and glue the twine to the outside later on but I preferred doing it this way so it’s hidden inside my shape.
Then it’s just a matter of repeating it all until you’ve used up all your pieces! Or if you are like me, you cut more to make it longer ;)
I actually made this for my niece because she wanted something to hang on her bunk (underneath the top one if that makes sense) but I have to confess…..I’ve kept it! I hung it on my shelf just to see how it looked and now I don’t want to let it go! Going to have to make her another one ;)
Love how it looks teamed with the felt ball garland...oh, and the ice-cream garland...and the tassel garland. As I told you, I have a thing for garlands ;)
Hope you found it easy and will give it a try! Please come back and share a link with me if you do ;) Thanks for stopping by! Take care, Em xo
